Day 7 Cycle 7

Today in IST Bill, Jeremy and I presented our video project on mine craft. It went well and everyone in our class enjoyed it. I want to learn more about scripting in java because that is what mine craft is made in. I would be cool if I could script my own game and post it online and maybe it will get popular like mine craft (not gonna happen). Overall today was a good day and tomorrow will be too because we have a shop party before Christmas break.

Day 6 Cycle 7

Today in IST we revised our video project to get ready to present tomorrow. We didn't add much, but we made sure it was 100% ready to present with out a problem. Hopefully every thing will go well with our project and our class mates will enjoy it. Also today I learned how to add a wipe transition effect in adobe after effects. Overall today was a good day and tomorrow I hope our project will go well presenting it to the class. I don't really know what else I want to learn about but tomorrow I will come across something interesting and want to learn about it.

Today In IST Jeremy, Bill and I finished our video project on minecraft, In the video we give a little bit of minecraft gameplay. We show you just some of the building aspects of the game are and PvE (player versus environment). We also show what are some creations are possible to build and enchanting of items and potion making. Also we've incorporated music from the game into our video so it is like a sample of what there's to come. Today I was productive and did what was needed to complete our project. I want to learn more about adobe after effects because we ran into a little bit of trouble navigating it and using it for our project.

Today I wasn't in shop. But I did independent research on Newegg for the custom computer build I will be buying soon. I mostly compared performance and looks. Price really wasn't a restriction because my parents are buying this for me.

Today was the first day of the new cycle in IST. Today I wrote my final project on comparing operating systems, Windows 7 vs. Mac OS X. Today I also worked on the power-point project we had to do. It was editing pre-made powerpoints to the powerpoint videos that followed each step to making the final project. Today I was very productive and got all my work done and still had time to have fun. I want to learn more about how Operating systems work and how they get improved in every new release that comes out.

Today in IST we took our practice DWTA or district wide trimester assessment.It is a review of most of the stuff we've learned this year so far. We also didn't do much besides that because its the end of the cycle and we only have tomorrow and wensday is a half day. So I didn't do much today besides finish my last power point and watch videos on you-tube and do some independent study work. Overall today was a good day and tomorrow should be too.

Today in IST I started to work on My final project. I am doing my final project on comparing operating systems. I choose windows 7, Linux Ubuntu, and Mac OS X leopard. My personal opinion I love windows but Mac Operating systems look a lot better that windows operating systems. I also think that Linux operating systems are very good but they lack they easy use of a windows or a mac. I want to learn more about coding in operating systems and how they are created. Overall today I had a good day and got a nice chunk of work done on my project.

Today in IST steve and I finished modifying the wireless cards for frank the IT technician for vinal. In the morning we had 11 to finish. after lunch we only had 3 and we finished at 1 o'clock. So today was a very productive day. And I also I got some of my PowerPoint work done to. Overall I got a lot of work done today and I will continue this tomorrow. I want to learn more about water cooling and different ways to cool computer hardware.

Today in IST I did a lot of production work. In the morning Steve and I had to modify a wireless network card to fit in to smaller computer chassis. That didn't take very long and we did some what of a good job. after that I fixed a students laptop that couldn't open iTunes because of a missing file that would not install on his computer. So I did a reformat and backed up all his files that he wanted to save on my external hard drive. After the reformat iTunes installed fine and I got a golden ticket for completing the task. I want to learn more about laptop hardware because I was thinking of building my own custom laptop. Overall today I had a very productive day and I hope it continues to be next week. because we have tomorrow off for veterans day.

Today was the first day back in IST after the snow storm we had the week before when we were suppose to be in IST. But the snow knocked down a lot of trees and power lines so we had a whole week off from school. Today in IST I really didn't do much at all because I was really tired and Mr. Sid our teacher didn't assign much work because it was the first day back and we weren't really pre-pared to get working right away and Mr. Sid had to help the new student who transferred into our shop. Hopefully tomorrow I will be more productive and get my final project done so I don't have to worry about it when time starts to run out.

Today in IST I helped reformat and re-install everything on Mr. Reilly's computer. We installed windows XP for the OS. And we put on good programs for anti-virus and malware protection. Some of the programs we put on were Avast, MalwareBytes, and Ccleaner. Also I helped move desks today in our work room from the other side of the building with steve, That was a haul. Overall toady I didn't get to much work done on my computer with the tutorials. But I helped out a lot and got a golden ticket for help moving the desks. I want to learn more about how OS's are created and scripted.

Today in IST I continued to finish making the tutorials we have to do for our class work. Also we installed Linux uBuntu on to our computers to make a dual boot system. I now can either load windows or ubuntu natively. This is better than just using a virtual machine because I can get more out of the OS im using. Today my day was over all pretty good and I got a decent amount of my work done. Plus I did some independent study work for our cycle in shop. I want to learn more about what I can do with ubuntu and if it is better than windows or has just  some better features.

Today In IST we started to learn  about VMware. VMware is software used to create virtual computers. Virtual computer run off of a host machine and do not use there own hardware but use some of the host's resources such as RAM, power from the CPU and hard drive space. Virtual machines are very convenient because they boot up quick and can run as fast as your normal pc if you let it use most of the resources it needs. Today I had a good day we got a lot done in class and tomorrow we will start to install different OS's on virtual machines. Also I want to learn more about how this software is coded and made.

Today in IST we started working with virtual machines. The software we use to create virtual machines in VMware. There are other companies that make virtual machine software but VMware is free and good. I also learned today how virtual machines are good for security and portability reasons. They are good for security because if the virtual machine gets infected the host won't and you can just delete the virtual machine. Also you can put virtual machines on a flash drive and bring them any where. I want to learn more about Mac based virtual machines. we started installing Mac OS X onto a virtual machine today but we didn't really get in depth with it. Today I was productive and I followed along in class and did everything I was suppose to.

Today in IST I worked on my presentation all day because I was out yesterday so I wasn't able to finish it and present it. The famous hack I researched for my presentation was the Kriegsman furs hack. A group of anti-fur activists hacked the Kriegsman furs website and replaced it with anti fur manifesto and facts about how animals are turned into fur goods. Today I learned that an SQL injection is a method to hack a website by typing in SQL commands which by this way you can get into the website database and mess with sensitive data. I would like to know more about other injection methods. Because It would be cool to know how to get into to a website that doesn't have that much safety. Overall today was a good day I got my presentation finished and I learned a lot about how the attack on Kriegsman furs.

Today in IST I learned about different hacks and code breaking methods. Now we have a project on this subject. we have to pick a famous hack and tell how it happened why it happened and what was the damages it did to people. Also it has to be presented to the class tomorrow so I have a lot of work to do tonight. I would like to know more about how hacks are made and what is used to make them. Because I would like to make my own just for fun and not to harm anyone. Overall today was an okay day I didn't really get that much done and I was really tired all day so maybe tomorrow will be better.

Cycle 18 Week 1

On Monday we took a pre-test for our D.W.T.A (District Wide Trimester Assessment) It was on internet security. I learned that it is important to scan your computer weekly because you might have gone on a website with trojans or malware. I would like to know more about what is the difference between all of the anti-virus programs because if they all do the same thing they should all be the same. Overall today was a good day it went by quickly but I was productive most of the day.

On Tuesday I worked with Steve on Cryptology we made our own encrypted message. Our encrypted message had multiple layers so it was harder to crack. After we finished making it we had to partner up with another group and try to crack each others codes. Steve and I were successful on cracking the other groups code but they weren't on ours. I learned that Crpytology is the science of code breaking and that there are different methods of breaking and making codes to encrypt messages. I would like to know more about how encrypted messages work over the internet. Overall today was a good day I learned new things and had fun creating the encrypted message with Steve.

On Wensday and Thursday we took the pre-test again for the D.W.T.A . After that we continued to read about internet security. I learned about the N.S.A (National Security Agency) they have a government facility that teaches people about Cryptology. I want to learn more about Cryptology and the science behind it. Overall today was an okay kind of day because I wasn't really paying attention during the first half of the videos we watch on Cryptology.

On Friday we took the D.W.T.A in the afternoon after studying in the morning for it. The real D.W.T.A was the exact same thing as the practice one so I knew I would ace it and I did. Today I didn't really learn anything at all. I don't really know what I want to learn more about because I didn't learn anything today. My day today was good it was pretty much just a chill day and we didn't do much work at all.

Today was the last day of Cycle 16 in IST and now I have a 14 day Cycle of academics. Today I finished watching all the Excel videos. I also helped Derick with his book work for Excel. Today I didn't learn anything new again because It was the same stuff I've been learning all week. Overall today was an ok day, But I should have been more productive and have done more work.

Today in IST I finished all my work in Excel except to watch all the videos on it but I'm going do that tomorrow. Today I didn't learn anything new just the same stuff I did all week nothing new. I don't know what I would like to learn more about probably something different besides Microsoft Office. Overall today was a chill day because I did all my work in the morning and then for the rest of the day I just helped other people and relaxed. Tomorrow is the last day of shop it will probably be an easy day to.

Today in IST we continued the book work in Excel and did a class/group activity on what we have learned so far in Microsoft Excel. The class/group activity was a crossword on some terms and questions about Excel. Today I learned a lot more about Excel and how to use it better. Today was better than yesterday I more work done and I learned a lot.

Cycle 16 day 3

Today in IST we started book work in Microsoft Excel. We were only assigned the first chapter and I did most of it through out the whole day. Today I learned some of the formulas in Excel and how to insert graphs and charts in to a spreadsheet. I would like to learn more about what the other formulas do in Excel. Today was a good day but I could have gotten all my work done if I didn't take so many brakes. But I'll try harder tomorrow to stay on task.

Cycle 16 Day 1&2

Today was the first day back in IST after a very very long academic cycle, But now I'm finally back. Today we didn't do much because we had to reformat all the computers and the server so we could get a fresh start. Today I learned how to make windows 7 boot able from a flash drive because we didn't have enough discs for everyone to use. It wasn't that hard our teacher showed use step by step how to do it using this blog http://kmwoley.com/blog/?p=345. I thought today I was productive because I listened in class and did everything I was suppose to.

Today we had an assembly on hate. I learned that most people at Vinal have been made fun of or made fun of other people a lot. And some people have been accused of being gay because a certain way they dress, act or talk. Some of the African American students have been called racial names because they are different than the other students. I would like to learn more about the speaker that gave the assembly she told us she was made fun when she was in high school because she was one of the only black students and she would get ridiculed and harassed. Overall today was a good learning experience to get to know my fellow classmate's and how they are treated.

Today in IST I continued my bookwork and I finished chapter 4 and 5 and I'm going to use my two golden tickets from the work Steve and I did. Today I learned about the different speeds of hard drives some of the RPM speeds are 5400, 5900, 7200, 10000, and 15000 which is the fastest but it is still not as fast as an SSD. I would like to know more about L1, L2 and L3 cache on the CPU and Motherboard. Overall today I was productive and I got most of everything done.

Today in IST we started to learn about hardware components and how they all work. We also started bookwork for it also. I would like to know about what L1, L2 and L3 cache is because I have some what of an idea of what they do but I'm not sure. Today I was not as productive as I wanted to because I didn't finish the book work because I wasn't on task. But overall today was a good day and tomorrow I will get the rest of my book work done.

Today in IST Steve and I finished 8 computers in the theory room and we got 2 golden tickets each for completing the task. Today in class we learned about hardware for our lesson even though I knew most of the terms and parts some were still new to me. I would like to know more about how older mechanical computers work because we watched a video on them in class and it looked interesting how they operated. Overall today was a good and I was productive today.

Today in IST Steve and I fixed again more of the dell and gateway machines in the theory room today we now have about six up and running with Windows XP. Today I didn't really learn anything new today because Mr.Sid our teacher let us have more time to work on our Power Points we are going to present tomorrow. Steve, Derick and I did our presentation on a concept car called the Dagger GT. Go here to learn more. I would like to learn more about how Microsoft office is made because it has to be one of the most commonly used programs. Overall today was a good day and tomorrow I hope our presentation goes well.

First day back in shop after a long academics cycle. This is much better than sitting in math class learning about exponents and other boring stuff. Today in IST we finished our flash games because we are going to present them to the class tomorrow. I didn't do the game because I had a golden ticket for doing production work. Today I learned more about different settings in the BIOS of a computer which is the main controller for all the components connected to the motherboard. I would like to know more about Hyper-Threading on Intel CPU's. I know a little bit about it but not much. Today was a good day because Steve and I got more of the old dell and gateway machines in the theory room working and they all have windows XP on them now.

Today in IST it was the last day of cycle 12 so Steve and I brought our computers in so we could play games because all our work was done. Today I didn't really do much because every thing was already finished. But I learned that you can't use two different hard drives in raid 0. I always thought you could until Steve told me.
Overall today was a good day because I didn't have to do anything even though I still like to learn. A chill day once and a while doesn't hurt.

Cycle 12 day 13

Today in IST Steve and I started our first game in Adobe flash. So far it is going good were trying to make a FPS or first person shooter type of game. were you are looking down the scope of a sniper rifle. And you have to find and kill the people. It is kinda hard because you have to put in specific coding and the walking for the targets. Today I learned the basics of Adobe Action Script 3.0 and how to save preset motion and shape tweens. I would like to know more about the things you can do in Adobe Action Script 3.0. And what is the difference between a classic tween and a shape/motion tween. Today I had a good day got lots of work done. Tomorrows the last day of shop then back to academics for forever and a half.

Today in IST I finished my work in PowerPoint. I had to embed several things like an internet browser, a you tube video and a media player. After I finished that I really didn't have anything else to do so I helped Brad, Jeremy, Mike and Derick in the theory room fixing the computers. Today I learned how to embed things in PowerPoint. I would like to know more about what else you can put into a PowerPoint. Maybe you can embed games made in Adobe Flash. Overall today was kind of a good day I wasn't doing my best and I could have just finished my work earlier.

Today in IST I brought my computer in so I could use it to work because it is faster and I could do more multi- tasking on it because it has a Quad-core 2.8 Ghz processor and 4gb of ram. I worked with Adobe Flash today because we got a list of assignments that needed to be completed. But every now and then I would stop working and play my favorite game MineCraft. Because of this I didn't get as much work as I could have done. But it was fun and now I have home work tonight.Today I learned about how to make basic games in Adobe Flash and that was cool. Overall today was a good day and I will get more work done tomorrow.

Today in IST Brad, Jeremy, Mike, Derick and I were in the theory room all day because we were fixing several computers. Mrs.Casey the global studies teacher brought hers in because it kept crashing and it was slow. And we got most of the computers in the cabinets to start running again. Today I learned that there are different versions of Linux and not just one. Some examples of popular versions of Linux are xubuntu, Konopix and Zubuntu. Today I was very productive and had a good time working on the computers maybe tomorrow we can get more of them running.

Today in IST we had another half day because of CAPT testing. Today we really didn't do anything because we couldn't get into a lesson we just made another basic movie in Adobe Flash. We also watched a movie on Discovery.com about computer science. I really didn't learn anything new today because we had a half day and couldn't really get into something in Adobe Flash. Overall today was a good day because we got to just do what we wanted to.

Today in IST we had a half day because of CAPT testing. Today we did more in Adobe Flash we used the bone tool which can movies limbs on people or stick figures etc. We also did some commands in Adobe Script 3.0 which is the coding for all the Adobe programs. Today I learned a couple new things today but maybe we will start something new tomorrow. Overall I had a good productive day today and I got a lot done.

Today in IST we continued to use Adobe Flash and remote desktop. I learned today in Adobe Flash how to make motion and shape tweens. A tween is the the motion in between frames that makes a complete motion. I would like to learn more about creating ads in Adobe Flash and opening them on a browser. I am sure we will probably learn this during the year. Today it was a good day because I learned a lot and made some cool stuff in Adobe Flash.

Today in IST we started Adobe Flash CS4 Professional  and we learned some of the basics today like how to add videos, songs and pictures. Also we got to remote desktop the server so we could get our work done more efficiently on a faster computer. I would like to know more about what Adobe media encoder can do other than convert media files. Today was productive because Mr.Sid was teaching the class how to use Flash and I didn't get distracted with any thing while we were working.

Toad in IST  I had to write a resume for a Microsoft soft word assignment that I did not finish So I have to finish it this weekend. In class today we watched a video on how to present a PowerPoint the right way because we are going to start a Project on Monday that involves a partner and we have to present in front of the class. I really didn't learn anything today because I was working on my resume the whole time. I would like to know more about I.T jobs because I want to find a job I'm interested in because would like to try to pursue in getting into that field of IST. Today I didn't really have a good day that was productive because the resume was boring and I didn't learn anything new I want to make everyday a learning experience.

Today in IST I have finished my PowerPoint exercises and I also helped Alfredo with his. Today I didn't really learn anything today because I did the same things I did yesterday except clean the theory room because Steve and I finished it yesterday and it came out really nice. I would like to learn more about if it is possible to use and 80 core processor even though its probably not. Because there is not motherboard out that  has this socket type for it. here is the video link intel 80 core processor. Overall today I had a good day again but I felt I could have been more productive though, I'll try harder tomorrow.

Today in IST Steve and I cleaned out the theory room again after the sophomores messed it up. But it was worth it because Steve and I got two golden production tickets each from it. Golden tickets excuse you from any assignment because you worked on something else. Today I learned a lot about different cables such as s-video, IDE, Molex and Parallel cables (printer cables). S-video is kind of self explanatory it is a type of video cable. IDE cables are for older hard drives before SATA came out. Molex cables distribute power through out the machine for devices like hard drives, CD/DVD ROM's, floppy drives and other internal devices that aren't plugged into a slot on the motherboard. I would like to know more about S-video because I myself have never used it and I don't know what kind of monitor it is used for or something else. My overall experience today was very good I got more than I expected to get done and then I also finished my PowerPoint exercises.

Today in IST we started a new part of the Microsoft  office 2007 book. The new part that we started is Microsoft PowerPoint we did four PowerPoint exercises. And I learned how to put bullet points in paragraph form. I would like to know more about if it is possible to create your own theme in PowerPoint. Instead of using the default ones.Today I had a good day because I almost got all my work done I just have one more exercise to do tomorrow and then I will be finished.

Today in IST I really didn't do a lot because I got all my work done on Friday and over the weekend. Today Steve and I learned how to make a bootable CD-ROM drive with image burn windows xp. That was all I did today because steve and I kept running into problems about not having enough space to fit on the disc. I would like to know more about how to work on the BIOS and fix things or overclocking and raid etc. Besides that today I had a good day.

Today in IST me and Steve are almost finished cleaning up the theory room. Plus we had a 90 minute delay so we had less time to get more done. Today I learned that the first floppy drives only held like a couple kila bytes. which is nothing compared to what we have for storage today. I also learned that there are different types of raid that you can run on hard drives. Raid 0 is when two hard drives act as a single one but is faster and has more storage. Raid 1 is when one hard drive is the main and the second one is a mirrored back up drive. I would like to learn more about how flash drives can hold a couple giga bytes but there so small. Today I had a good day I got a lot done and had no time where I was sitting doing nothing.

Today in IST we started a new chapter in the Microsoft word exercises and I got all the work done within an hour so me and Steve had a lot of time to continue working on the room again today I learned how to add a foot note to a word document because it was an instruction in the work we had to do. I would like to know more about how software is made because do you have to use an other program to create another program? Overall today I had a good day I got a lot of work done and learned a few new things.

Cycle 10 day 4

Today in IST we continued work in Microsoft Word and we had to make a research paper on any topic I choose the rising costs in gas prices. Because regular gas is almost at $3.20 to a gallon which is a lot more than I remember back in 2007-2008. I also got to help with the server today me, Steve, Bradley, Mike and Derick had to make more Ethernet cables and run them under the floor boards to two computers in the senior side of the room. Me and Steve started to clean out the theory room because it is going to be turned in to a Network/Office place. Mr.Sid our teach asked us to and it seemed like a got idea so i could expand my knowledge on servers and server printers. I also want to learn more about how processors work because I don't get how something so small that it generates enough heat to have to be cooled down so much with big heatsinks and fans.

Today in IST we learned more on Microsoft word and we did more writing and editing exercises. One of the exercises we did was to change the words around so that they made sense and change the heading and add a picture. today i also helped fix a computer for E-mech. The problem with the computer was that it wouldn't load past the start up because it had a password that kept changing every time you boot up the computer. So me and steve found a way to change the password every time to something simple. I also got to help work on the server today and it was very interesting and i would like to learn more on how they work and transfer data through the entire school. hopefully tomorrow i will get to help with the server.

Cycle 8 Summary

During cycle 8 of IST we spent most of the time creating our own websites using html in note pad. The first day we learned all the basic tags like <html> <body> <h1>  and how to end tags like this </html> </body> </h1>. Also we learned how to make tables and link different pages to each other. More over I would like to learn how make my own page layout and how to add a slide show to my website. On the second day of IST we continued our websites but we learned a little about more advanced tags such as <a href=""> /a> and adding frames to our websites. Frames have visible borders and they can divide different pages up into one layout.

Cycle 10 day 2

Today we did exercises in Microsoft word about basic word formatting and controls in Microsoft word 2007.
i learned  how to add effects to pictures and i also learned how to add different style borders to a word document.
